Bridging the gap between engineering and business

Violet-LapkeAt the Ivy College of Business, we believe that real-world challenges require a combination of technical expertise and business strategy. That’s why students like Violet Lapke are thriving in our MBA program, blending their backgrounds with new business skills to create solutions that matter.

After years of interning as a chemical engineer, Lapke realized the next step in her career required more than technical knowledge. She needed to understand the business side of the industry to drive true innovation. She decided to attend Done in a Day and joined the Ivy MBA program – a journey that has transformed the way she approaches problem-solving.

Done in a Day is a concurrent MBA admissions event that offers high-achieving prospective students, like Lapke, a fast-track option into the program. Participants immerse themselves in the Ivy College of Business MBA experience through engaging information sessions, peer mentoring, and an official admissions interview — culminating in an application decision within 24 hours.

The next Done in a Day event is on October 29. Applications are due on October 17.

“While working as an engineer in manufacturing, I realized many inefficiencies develop from miscommunication or knowledge gaps. This motivated me to become a well-rounded asset that enables and facilitates cross-functional work. The versatility of the MBA program perfectly complemented this goal.”

Through business case competitions, internships, and the support of the Ivy graduate career services team, Lapke has gained the confidence to excel in roles that span both technical and business functions. Whether it’s working late into the night with her team on a winning business case or applying her newfound skills at her internship with Rockwell Automation, Lapke is turning challenges into opportunities.

“Having fundamental knowledge of strategic marketing, supply chain operations, and business case development has been pivotal to my success this summer,” Lapke said. “I am unsure what route I will take following graduation in May, but I am happy with the experiences I get to take with me moving forward.”
