What is convocation?
Raise your hand if you have not heard of convocation.
At colleges and universities, such as Iowa State, convocation is used to describe the ceremony leading up to the official commencement ceremony.
The Ivy Convocation ceremony, hosted each semester by the college, provides a more personal opportunity to engage with family and fellow students. The event includes addresses from the dean and a student representative, as well as the recognition of academic accomplishments and honors.
Because the college convocation ceremony is a smaller gathering, you may submit a personal statement to be read as you cross the stage, where the dean, professors, and staff will be there to congratulate you.
Many students choose to attend the university commencement ceremony as well as convocation. For more information visit the Iowa State commencement website.
