Sales professionals, marketing faculty, and top sales students gathered for the third annual Ivy Sales Innovation Summit, held May 14 at the Iowa State University Memorial Union. Hosted by the Ivy College of Business and Iowa State’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS), the event drew nearly 90 participants from 35 organizations for a productive day of learning and networking.
Designed for leaders and teams seeking best practices in sales, this year’s summit focused on understanding motivation and individual and team strengths as a way to unlock potential and maximize performance. All registrants had the opportunity to take the CliftonStrengths assessment before the event. Kathy Wieland, director of Ivy Business Career Services and a Gallup-certified strengths coach, kicked off the day with a 90-minute workshop, “Start with Talent; Finish with Strength.”
The event featured a lunchtime keynote address by Dan Cosgrove, chief administrative officer and general counsel at Benson Hill. Other featured speakers included Mark Schwab, a former NCAA Division I college wrestling coach and three-time All-American at the University of Northern Iowa, and Christina Moffat, a customer growth strategist and entrepreneur.
The Ivy Sales Innovation Summit was made possible thanks to generous support from CIRAS and the Ivy Sales Forum, a collaboration between the Ivy College of Business and 17 industry partners to advance the growth and effectiveness of professional sales.
Throughout the day, leaders from the Ivy Sales Advisory Board and Ivy faculty members shared their experiences with strengths and motivation in a series of six-minute talks.
Presenters included:
- John Balsmeier, vice president of internal sales at Athene.
- Lindsay Bohon, vice president of corporate sales operations at GreatAmerica Financial Services.
- Mike Gassmann, associate professor of practice in marketing at Ivy.
- Ashley Goreczny, assistant professor of marketing at Ivy.
