Raj AgnihotriRaj Agnihotri has been named assistant dean for Industry Engagement at the Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business. This is a new position in the college.

Agnihotri, a professor of marketing, is considered a global authority in digital mediation within business-to-business marketing and sales processes. He joined the Ivy College of Business in 2018 to help the college create a sales program.

“One of our strategic priorities, along with teaching and research, is engagement with the business community,” said Raisbeck Endowed Dean David Spalding, who also serves as vice president of Economic Development and Industry Relations at Iowa State University. “This is where Raj really shines. He is a leader in building and strengthening industry relationships. Promoting him to assistant dean helps us combine his talents with the growth of our programs.”

Areas of Agnihotri’s focus:

Ivy Custom Education Program

To drive business success, the Ivy Custom Education program was launched last year to provide customized professional development for businesses and organizations throughout Iowa. These programs connect high-potential employees with the expertise and experience of our internationally known faculty. Each session is designed to meet the needs of any organization. The program is led by Agnihotri.

“We bring our faculty to businesses to enhance their organization’s learning journey,” Agnihotri said. “These customized programs allow companies to give their employees access to the expertise of the internationally known Ivy faculty. This benefits Iowa companies while bringing in new revenue to the college.”

In this role, he leads the custom education initiative that develops and delivers two types of programs: training programs to increase employee skills and executive education programs to help executives take on higher responsibilities. Both types of programs are customized to company needs and taught by experienced faculty and staff from the Ivy College of Business.

“I am thrilled about this responsibility. This initiative provides me with an opportunity to serve both the university and Iowa businesses as we bring the expertise of our faculty to organizations pursuing learning journeys,” Agnihotri said. “It’s a great way to retain the best employees and make them even more effective.”

Ivy Sales Forum

Agnihotri led the creation of the Ivy Sales Forum, a successful collaboration between academics and industry.

The Ivy Sales Forum strives to advance the growth and effectiveness of professional sales and works with its corporate partners to provide professional sales certificate students with relevant experiential learning opportunities.

The Ivy Sales Forum also relies on members of the Ivy Sales Advisory Board, who provide advice and counsel. This could include guidance on academic strategies, student mentoring, apportionment of resources, identifying potential new members, and other activities aiming to strengthen a world-class sales program.

Experience

Over the years, Agnihotri has mentored and advised countless Iowa State students. He was recently honored with the Morrill Professor title, which is conferred on a faculty member who has exhibited excellence in undergraduate or graduate teaching or extension and outreach programs and who has demonstrated outstanding performance in at least one other area of faculty responsibility. He will retain the title for the remainder of his career at the university.

Before entering academia, Agnihotri held several sales and marketing positions with startup ventures to major corporations and currently serves on the advisory boards of startups based in the United States, Europe, and India. Author of one of the most widely used professional-selling textbooks, he has given sales seminars to industry professionals from North America, Brazil, Europe, and India.
