Preparing to impact the animal science industry
Meet first-year MBA student Graca Goettsch. Growing up on her family’s row crop farm in Holstein, Iowa, Goettsch has always had deep roots in the agriculture industry. Her academic pursuits reflect this, as she is working toward earning a double bachelor’s degree in animal science and international agriculture, concurrently with the MBA program.
Not only is Goettsch a high-achieving student, but she is also heavily involved in many clubs and organizations at Iowa State University. As a member of Sigma Alpha, a professional agricultural sorority, the Block and Bridle Club, and Swine Production Advocates, she has immersed herself in communities that share her passion for agriculture and animal science. She also serves as a peer mentor for animal science students and a student leader at St. Thomas Aquinas catholic church.
This summer, Goettsch gained hands-on experience in the production industry by interning at New Fashion Pork in Jackson, Minnesota. As a swine production intern, she had the opportunity to dive into every aspect of swine production, including assisting sows during farrowing, ensuring the health and well-being of piglets, and administering vaccinations. Additionally, she was involved in the breeding process, loading market pigs onto trucks, and spending time in the finishing barns. Outside of her academic and professional life, Goettsch keeps busy by running, spending time at the lake, and attending livestock shows.
It was at a Block and Bridle Club meeting during her freshman year that she heard about the Ivy MBA program through MBA ambassadors who came to speak to the club. “When I found out that there was a concurrent program, I knew that it was something I wanted to do,” Goettsch said.
After attending Done in a Day and speaking with current students, alumni, and faculty about how she’d be able to manage her time and schedule in the program, she knew that the program was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.
Although her career aspirations are still evolving, Goettsch is leaning toward pursuing a career in sales within the animal science industry. She is confident that the MBA program will provide clarity and guidance as she moves further along in her career.

As she begins this next chapter of her academic journey, Goettsch hopes to gain applicable skills for her future career. She’s looking forward to learning from the MBA’s core faculty and collaborating with the graduate programs staff, in addition to making connections in the industry and with her new classmates. “The MBA has many opportunities, such as case competitions, that I’m excited to take part in and learn from.”
