Student Spotlight
With no prior internship experience, Kendyll Stevenson, a junior from Reisterstown, Maryland, studying supply chain management and international business, was able to utilize the various resources provided by the Ivy College of Business to make sure she was prepared.
Her first internship experience came last summer, when she worked as the enterprise resource planning systems intern at Illinois Tool Works in Hebron, Illinois.
“I found myself having to elaborate heavily on what I had learned in my initial supply chain classes and the leadership skills I had developed throughout other organizations on campus,” said Stevenson.
The skills that she was able to develop at the Ivy College of Business also helped prepare her for the complexities that come with a position in the supply chain field.
“There were a lot of different responsibilities associated with my position. I conducted learning management system research, updated and created work instructions, and helped to create the backbone of a data search website. My joint projects included eliminating paper waste in a sister plant and mapping out a manufacturing process.”
Stevenson had heard about the company through a family connection, but waited until spring to make any decisions as she wanted to make sure to find the internship opportunity that worked best for her.
“I applied for the enterprise resource planning systems internship because supply chain professionals (and other departments) utilize these powerful systems to collaborate and make decisions on a daily basis. I wanted to develop my expertise in the automated side of a supply chain because technology based on intelligent strategy is powerful.”
She found her work to be a very enriching experience, and further demonstrated how beneficial it can be to pursue an internship as soon as possible.
“The biggest piece of advice I can give to students planning to pursue an internship is to start early. Once I completed my first internship and elaborated on my experiences during interviews, many new opportunities seemed to fall into place for me.”

“During this internship, I grew as a leader because I was trusted with plenty of autonomy over my projects. I absolutely loved getting to know the other interns on a personal level as well as collaborating with them on various projects. I found myself bonding easily with them because we are all driven and personable individuals.”
Now is the time for students to start thinking about summer internships for 2024. With many students already applying for and accepting positions, Stevenson provided her advice for those planning to pursue their first internship.
